Appointment Requests - SMC & BOR

Scout Society uses an Appointment Request form in the SS Portal to help schedule Scoutmaster conferences and Board of Reviews. The form requires a Scout Society account because it is part of the member intranet.

Planning ahead:

Check the Scout Society Event Calendar for available session dates and submit appointment requests as early as possible. Requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and available time slots are limited. Early submission increases the likelihood of securing your spot.

Submit the Appointment Request

  1. Sign in to the SS Portal with your Scout Society account and open Scout’s Corner > Appointment Request.
  2. Confirm the email address and enter your first and last name.
  3. Choose your appointment type (Board of Review or Scoutmaster Conference)
  4. Choose the target rank and select your preferred appointment date.
  5. Review the information and submit the form. Keep the confirmation or response copy if one is provided.

Prepare for the appointment

  • Bring your Scout Handbook and any advancement records the unit asks you to bring.
  • Be ready to discuss your Scouting experiences, goals, leadership, service, challenges, and what you learned.
  • Scout Society prefers the full field uniform when practical.

Scoutmaster conference and board of review are different

A Scoutmaster conference is a conversation with the unit leader about the Scout’s progress and experience; it does not have to be the final activity completed for a rank. A Board of Review for Tenderfoot through Life follows completion of the rank requirements, including the conference, and its date becomes the effective rank date when the Scout is approved.

Scheduling is not an extra advancement requirement:

The Appointment Request form is a Scout Society scheduling process, not an additional Scouting America rank requirement. Once a Scout is ready for a board of review, a scout should submit the request promptly.

Eagle Scout appointments

Eagle Scout advancement includes additional council procedures. Follow the current Eagle guidance from Scout Society leaders and the local council rather than assuming that the normal unit Appointment Request form is the only step required.
